The majority of supporters became familiar with Big Ellie following her viral halftime shows during the New York Liberty’s playoff journey in 2023. In that season, she unveiled her first memorable character, Lil’ Ellie Kim, a tribute to Grammy Award winner Lil’ Kim. Though Ellie gained massive attention in 2023, her career began with the New York Liberty in 2021 after Maddie the Golden Retriever’s retirement. This aligned with the team’s relocation to the Barclays Arena in downtown Brooklyn after two decades in Manhattan at Madison Square Garden.
Mascots typically showcase the essence of the city’s identity. In Ellie’s case, she represents Brooklyn’s genuine nature, flair, and fearless vibe of a true influencer. At the Barclays, Ellie parades the corridors—everyone’s eyes are on her and her crew. If you’re fortunate enough to encounter her, she may greet you with a kiss on both cheeks. The Pregame Ritual
