HBO is working on a Baldur’s Gate television series that will follow the narrative of Larian Studios’ acclaimed RPG Baldur’s Gate 3, as reported by Deadline. Craig Mazin, co-creator of The Last Of Us, will take on the roles of creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the project.

Although it will introduce new protagonists, there are plans for existing characters from the game to make a return, and Mazin intends to approach cast members from Baldur’s Gate 3 with “suggestions for their involvement in the television adaptation and possible methods to facilitate that,” Deadline mentions. (It’s my hope that the entire main cast will reprise their roles since they’re all exceptional.)

When this new Baldur’s Gate series will premiere remains uncertain. Larian is not part of the series, reports Geoff Keighley.

“Having invested nearly 1000 hours in the amazing world of Baldur’s Gate 3, it feels like a dream realized to continue the saga that Larian and Wizards of The Coast have crafted,” Mazin expressed to Deadline. “I am a passionate admirer of D&D and the remarkable manner in which Swen Vincke and his talented team have adapted it.” (Mazin has even succeeded in finishing the game in its extremely challenging Honour Mode, according to the article.)

Mazin is also continuing to work on the third season of The Last of Us, which might be its final season. Last year, the show’s other co-creator, Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog, announced that he would be stepping back from the series to concentrate on the studio’s game development.
