Ayaneo’s new retro gaming handheld is facing shipping delays due to Indiegogo’s transition to a new infrastructure, impacting its expected release timeline.

Indiegogo is set to introduce a new type of “Express Crowdfunding” campaign format that permits creators to ship items while the campaign is ongoing, eliminating the need to wait for the campaign’s conclusion.
According to Indiegogo spokesperson Maciej Kuc, this change was prompted by Indiegogo’s recent transition to a new infrastructure under its new ownership, involving board game crowdfunding platform Gamefound:
Adopting an entirely new technology presents significant challenges. The current technology Indiegogo is developing was initially designed for Gamefound, which operates as a somewhat more “conventional” crowdfunding platform. Its foundational premise assumes that creators conduct a campaign to gather funds needed to realize a product. The system anticipated a minimum interval of two weeks between the crowdfunding phase and the pledge manager stage, during which order finalization and address collection occurs.
A notable example of the current delays was reported by Android Authority, highlighting Ayaneo’s campaign for the upcoming Pocket AIR Mini retro gaming handheld. Initially, Ayaneo aimed to start shipping the device by the end of November, but due to “platform policy requirements,” the company indicates they cannot gather shipping addresses until December 5th. Specifically, Ayaneo states that they can only request the transition to the Pledge Manager phase, where address collection occurs, starting December 2nd, and that process typically requires about three days for approval. Consequently, shipments are now scheduled to commence “around” December 10th, as per Ayaneo.
Kuc mentioned that Indiegogo’s new Express Crowdfunding format “should be accessible” in early February.
