*insert Godzilla roar sound* Here’s an exclusive first glimpse at the upcoming major kaiju film. Godzilla Minus Zero will carry on the narrative of 2023’s Godzilla Minus One, which brought the series back to the more realistic approach initiated in the original movie, and while the new teaser doesn’t reveal much, it hints at significant developments for the franchise.
Minus Zero is set in 1949, two years post the inaugural film, “and progresses the tale of the Shikishima household as they encounter an entirely new disaster,” according to the official synopsis. It seems this will involve relocating the backdrop from Tokyo to New York, showcasing Godzilla near the Statue of Liberty. Stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe will reprise their characters, with director Takashi Yamazaki — who is also working on a giant robot film called Grandgear — returning to direct. Toho has also announced that Minus Zero will be the primary Japanese film shot in IMAX.
It’s a bustling period for the world’s most renowned kaiju, who will also feature in the next film of Legendary’s monsterverse titled Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, and is presently spotlighted in the Apple TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Godzilla Minus Zero, in the meantime, arrives in theaters on November 6th.
