Marvel Studios has released the initial teaser for Wonder Man, an eight-part miniseries set to debut in January, in anticipation of its panel at New York Comic Con this weekend.
A component of the MCU’s Phase Six, the miniseries was developed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and Andrew Guest (Hawkeye), with Guest as the showrunner. It has been in the works since 2022.
The comic book iteration of the character is the offspring of a wealthy industrialist who takes over the family’s munitions business but struggles against Stark Industries’ competition. Baron Zemo (Falcon and the Winter Soldier) recruits him to spy on and betray the Avengers, granting him superpowers (“ionic energy”) through a unique serum. He ultimately transforms into a superhero and an ally of the Avengers, aiding them in battles against foes like Doctor Doom. Given that Doctor Doom is the primary antagonist in the upcoming two new Avengers films, a Wonder Man miniseries is logical.
In the upcoming miniseries, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays Simon Williams, also known as Wonder Man, an actor and stuntman endowed with real superpowers who opts to audition for the leading part in a superhero television show—a reboot of a prior Wonder Man version. Demetrius Grosse portrays Simon’s sibling, Eric, aka Grim Reaper; Ed Harris plays Simon’s agent, Neal Saroyan; and Arian Moayed features as P. Clearly, an agent affiliated with the Department of Damage Control. Lauren Glazier, Josh Gad, Byron Bowers, Bechir Sylvain, and Manny McCord are also set to appear in undisclosed roles.
