Logitech will disable its $100 Pop smart home buttons on October 15

In yet another setback for early adopters of smart home technology, Logitech has declared that all Pop switches will be rendered inoperative starting October 15.

Logitech debuted Pop switches in August 2016, offering swift access to various smart home functionalities, including integrations with third-party devices. Users were able to program their Pop buttons to activate Philips Hue or Insteon lighting presets, play music from their Sonos speakers, or manage Lutron smart blinds. Each button was capable of storing three actions, recognized smart home devices on a shared Wi-Fi network, and was operated through a dedicated app on Android or iOS. The Pop Home Switch Starter Pack came out at $100, while individual Pop Add-on Home Switches were priced at $40 each.

A representative from the company informed Ars Technica that on September 29, Logitech alerted customers that their Pop switches would soon be classified as e-waste. As noted in emails shared on Reddit, Logitech’s announcement stated:

Effective October 15, 2025, your POP button(s) and the associated hub will no longer receive support and will cease to function.

As a form of compensation, Logitech provided affected customers with a 15 percent discount coupon for select Logitech products, including its Ultimate Ears speakers. This coupon is applicable only in the US and is valid until March 31, 2026, with exclusions for Logitech’s Pro or RS gaming wheels, videoconferencing equipment, its Logitech for Business range, or “newly released products,” as mentioned in the email.

Logitech’s overlooked smart home

The spokesperson from Logitech did not reply to Ars’ inquiries about e-waste, the brief cancellation notice, or whether owners of Pop buttons can use the devices offline after October 15.

“For nearly a decade, we have supported the POP ecosystem, but with technological advancements, we have decided to discontinue support for this device,” the Logitech representative informed Ars, mirroring statements made in the email sent to customers.
