Spotify Premium subscribers in New Zealand will be the initial users to engage with the service’s newest personalization feature. The firm is allowing users to view and modify their Taste Profile directly. If your algorithm curates too much of Bieber, you can kindly instruct it to tone it down. Beta testers can reach the feature by tapping on their profile icon and choosing Taste Profile from the sidebar menu.
The Taste Profile not only informs you about the artists you frequently listen to but also detects patterns in your listening tendencies. In a brief demo clip, Spotify illustrates a sample Taste Profile that includes the phrase, “you’re also starting to explore ‘90s alternative rock.”
At the bottom of the screen is a section labeled “Tell us more,” where you can express to Spotify what you desire more or less of, including podcasts. Here, you can indicate requests like “I would appreciate more hip hop” or “I’m training for a marathon and seek more high-energy tracks,” which Spotify will factor into its recommendations. It resembles the company’s chatbot-enabled Prompted Playlists.
Spotify is enhancing features on the non-algorithmic side as well, by introducing filters for your Following Feed for podcasts. You can now filter to view only unplayed episodes, items currently being streamed, or solely video podcasts.
