Will Lewis has exited after the widespread layoffs that took place earlier this week.

After a term that can be described as troublesome in his role as the CEO of The Washington Post, Will Lewis is departing following significant layoffs this week. Jeff D’Onofrio, the previous CEO of Tumblr from 2017 to 2022, will take over as the acting CEO and publisher. D’Onofrio has been the CFO at the Post since June of last year, giving him direct insight into Jeff Bezos’ restructuring of the historically significant publication over the past nine months.
D’Onofrio’s background does not feature significant experience in conventional news media, nor many remarkable achievements. He held a brief position as the general manager of Yahoo News when it was still owned by Verizon, before concentrating on Tumblr exclusively. Under his helm, Tumblr attempted to improve its reputation by prohibiting adult content, yet its user traffic decreased by 30 percent. Yahoo had acquired Tumblr for $1.1 billion in 2013. By 2019, it was sold to Automatic, which owns WordPress, for a rumored price below $3 million.
