Take our assessment on the year in health and biotechnologies

In merely a few weeks, we will say goodbye to 2025. What a remarkable year it has proven to be! Artificial intelligence is becoming integrated into numerous facets of our daily lives, weight-loss medications have broadened their reach, and we have encountered some genuine “wow” biotech narratives from the domains of gene therapy, IVF, neurotechnology, and beyond.

As is customary, the crew at MIT Technology Review is assembling our 2026 compilation of groundbreaking technologies. This will be revealed in the upcoming year (stay tuned). Meanwhile, my associate Antonio Regalado has gathered his annual list of the year’s least favorable technologies.

I’m encouraging you to challenge your own recall. How attentively have you been monitoring the Checkup newsletters that have dropped into your inbox this year?!

This piece first appeared in The Checkup, MIT Technology Review’s weekly biotech bulletin. To have it delivered to your inbox every Thursday, and to read articles like this first, subscribe here.
