The Fujifilm X Half is available at the price it was meant to initially be.

Fujifilm’s unique X Half stirred many emotions from photographers when it debuted this year — spanning from “That seems like such a blast,” to “Hold on, it costs how much?“ The $849.95 MSRP felt excessively steep for what is, by all standards, a playful, light-hearted point-and-shoot. However, its $649 discounted price? Much more palatable.

The X Half features a 1-inch sensor, a fixed 32mm-equivalent f/2.8 lens, and an abundance of nostalgia-evoking capabilities, designed to make it feel reminiscent of using an old-fashioned analog camera. In addition to various vintage film simulations, it offers a mode that even necessitates you to manually “advance” the film between captures. It’s incredibly charming.

Even with its vintage appeal, it’s fundamentally a contemporary digital camera. However, that does not imply that you should anticipate the typical array of functionalities found in most other high-end point-and-shoot models. There’s no electronic viewfinder, no stabilization, along with the absence of RAW capabilities. Sacrificing all of that for an $850 camera could be challenging, but if you are in search of a justification to pamper yourself with an innovative, dare we say enjoyable gadget, then this could very well be the appropriate price point.
