Apple recently unveiled 14-inch MacBook Pro upgrades that introduce a new generation M5 chip, enhanced storage, and a commitment to a 24-hour battery life, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now suggests that next year’s update will be more comprehensive.

For years, Gurman has mentioned that, based on his sources, the upcoming significant revamp of the MacBook Pro would include touchscreens, OLED panels, and a lighter, sleeker chassis. He reported last month that aside from a delay from a late 2025 release due to OLED supply constraints, nothing had changed regarding this plan, and today, he provided further details on codenames (K114 and K116) and additional specifications.

While touchscreens have been standard on Windows laptops for years, Apple has refrained from adopting them, choosing to incorporate the Touch Bar into its devices for a few years before shifting its approach in 2021. The report also hints at another modification that is common in Windows devices but missing from Macs — a transition from Touch ID fingerprint scanning to Face ID recognition, which he claims is still several years away.

Before this, he mentions that we can anticipate M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro revisions with the existing design launching early next year. Likewise, upgraded models of the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, Mac Mini, and two displays are in progress.

According to Gurman, the forthcoming MacBook Pros will feature M6 family Apple chips, an integrated webcam with a hole-punch design resembling the front-facing camera of the iPhone’s Dynamic Island, and reinforced hinges that won’t sway or move while interacting with the touchscreen.

The downside? Those modifications are projected to elevate prices by “a few hundred dollars,” and it’s unlikely they’ll be available on Apple’s lower-priced laptops right away.
