It seems like nearly everything is experiencing consecutive price increases at the moment, so why wouldn’t your home internet bill join in? AT&T has announced a $5 monthly increase across all AT&T Internet plans, as confirmed to The Verge. This is in addition to the $5 monthly increase that took effect in November 2024, and also appears to involve a $5 monthly rise for certain customers in 2023.
“In order to keep providing you with the high-quality service and support you deserve, the cost of your home internet plan will rise by $5/month, starting December 1, 2025,” according to an email I got on Thursday. But it’s not just me; this has been confirmed by the company.
Here’s the statement from AT&T, provided by spokesperson Jim Kimberly:
To address the changing demands of our business and tackle rising operational expenses, we are revising our internet plan pricing to ensure we can continue to provide the premium service our clients expect. We aim to keep our customers updated on these changes and their options. To mitigate these adjustments, customers not yet registered for Autopay and Paperless Billing can get a $10 monthly discount by signing up with an eligible bank account, or a $5 discount with a debit card. Customers can explore the specifics of their plan and the associated costs by looking at their monthly bills or by checking att.com.
It’s accurate that AT&T recently reported increased operating costs of $300 million last quarter. Nevertheless, the company is generating significant revenue, having earned $4.9 billion in net profit last quarter, and a total net profit of $12.3 billion throughout all of 2024.
Kimberly has noted that while this new price increase will affect all AT&T Internet plans, customers who enrolled within the last year or those using the Access from AT&T initiative for low-income families will not be impacted.
I registered with AT&T in 2022 for about $80 a month, currently pay $85.38, and will likely see my bill exceed $90 soon. Here’s the full email I received:
