As this is a Game of Thrones series, it features a broad ensemble cast. Ross Anderson plays Ser Humfrey Hardyng; Edward Ashley portrays Ser Steffon Fossoway; Henry Ashton takes on the role of Egg’s elder sibling, Prince Daeron “The Drunken” Targaryen; Youssef Kerkour appears as a blacksmith named Steely Pate; Daniel Monks portrays Ser Manfred Dondarrion; Shaun Thomas acts as Raymun Fossoway; Tom Vaughan-Lawlor plays Plummer, a steward; Steve Wall takes on the role of Lord Leo “Longthorn” Tyrell, the Lord of Highgarden; and Danny Webb portrays Dunk’s mentor, Ser Arlan of Pennytree.

It’s wise to remember in the Game of Thrones realm not to become too emotionally invested in any of the characters, and that likely applies here as well. However, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms appears to strive for a different, more lighthearted atmosphere compared to its predecessors, as indicated by the teaser, which includes humorous elements. Martin has mentioned this on his blog, despite adding, “It’s still Westeros, so no one is genuinely safe.”

Given that Dunk is a modest hedge knight, there will be numerous scenes depicting him slogging through mud and rain, with jousting likely taking a more central role. “I’ve always enjoyed Medieval tournaments in other films,” Martin stated during a NYCC panel. “We had multiple tournaments in Game of Thrones, but they were merely in the background, not the focus. I wanted to create something set during a tournament. I challenged the (TV writers): Let’s produce the finest jousting sequences ever captured on film. My favorite was 1952’s Ivanhoe.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on HBO on January 18, 2026.
