The Trump administration has erected signs on federal websites attributing the government shutdown to Democrats and, in some instances, overtly campaigning for President Donald Trump. One sign on the USDA’s site states, “The Radical Left Democrats shut down the government,” furthermore clarifying that “President Trump has made it clear he wants to keep the government functional and support those who feed, fuel, and clothe the American people.”

Other sites showcase comparable statements, with a banner on the Department of the Treasury indicating that Democrats have caused the shutdown “in the name of careless spending and obstructionism.” The White House site similarly points fingers at Democrats and features a countdown displaying the duration of the shutdown thus far.

On Wednesday morning, the federal government ceased operations after Congress failed to come to an agreement regarding a funding measure, as Democrats find themselves continuing to encounter opposition from Republicans on their efforts to prolong subsidies for the Affordable Care Act. Republicans have predominantly attributed the impasse to Democrats, with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) posting on X that the Democrats “voted” to shut down the government.

Not every federal agency features such messages, as the Department of State, the Department of Education, and the Federal Communications Commission’s sites display a notice indicating that updates will not be made due to the government shutdown.
