Microsoft is evaluating a method that will simplify the process of navigating through the mess in your photo library. An upcoming update for all Windows 11 Insiders on Copilot Plus PCs will launch a new AI-driven feature in the Photos app that automatically organizes images of receipts, screenshots, identification documents, and handwritten notes into their respective folders.

According to Microsoft, the Photos app will autonomously classify these images based on their visual characteristics, even if the text within the image is in a non-English language. For instance, a photograph of a Hungarian passport will still be categorized with your other identity documents.

After Photos sorts your images, the folders it creates will be visible under the Categories section on the left-hand navigation bar. Currently, Photos is only capable of identifying and categorizing screenshots, receipts, identity documents, and notes, but it would be even more valuable if users could indicate additional categories they would like to establish, such as photos of pets or vacations.
