The application for Amazon’s Blink security cameras faced an issue for several hours on Friday night that prevented users from accessing their cameras, but a resolution has been implemented, according to spokesperson Emma Daniels for The Verge. Users on Amazon’s general Blink support forum and on the Blink Cameras subreddit reported difficulties accessing the app, with many encountering a nonspecific error displaying a 503 status code.
A Reddit thread with over 150 comments saw users from various states across the US, including California, New Jersey, Oregon, Texas, and Washington, reporting the 503 error. This thread originated at 4:54 PM ET. The support forum for Amazon had several threads noting the 503 error, with discussions beginning to emerge late Friday afternoon.
My colleague Jen Tuohy also experienced difficulties logging into the Blink app. While I do not have any Blink cameras, upon downloading the app and attempting to create an account, I received an error message displaying a 403 status code. Once the fix was implemented, I was able to create an account without any issues.
According to Daniels, recordings and notifications remained unaffected by the incident.
Update, September 26th: Amazon has announced that a fix has been deployed for the problem.
