The Après Experience at This Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch Harmonizes Athleticism With Opulence

With Hotels With Great Taste, we are revealing the behind-the-scenes look at the “secret ingredient” that hotels utilize to craft unforgettable and significant culinary adventures for their visitors.

Until a few years back, when selecting travel spots, I was predominantly a city enthusiast who favored the excitement and energy of a food-centric itinerary set against an urban landscape. However, unexpectedly, I transitioned into an outdoor enthusiast over the past few years.

As I brushed off the dust from my basic tennis skills from my formative years, researched countless hiking footwear options (still open to recommendations), and cautiously mustered the courage to traverse terrains beyond a beginner slope, my fascination for both new and rekindled hobbies surged. Suddenly, I found myself searching for tennis-focused girls’ weekends, the most suitable hiking paths for novices within an hour’s drive, and family-oriented ski getaways. Activity ratings were always the main attraction; if quality food was somewhat within reach, it was merely a bonus.

Upon visiting The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch in Beaver Creek, Colorado, I realized that a sports-oriented retreat and exceptional dining could coexist harmoniously. The resort is nestled among the Rocky Mountains and Beaver Creek ski area, featuring ski-in/ski-out accessibility. It offers options for all skill levels, with plenty of ski schools and private lesson availability for both novice and seasoned skiers and snowboarders. Additionally, cross-country skiing and snowshoe tours are provided.

I had the luck of having a guide who assisted me in navigating easier green trails and pushed me towards more difficult blue runs. He understood when we required a sweet boost at the Candy Cabin, an actual candy-laden cabin, reminiscent of both Hansel and Gretel and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with its tubs of unique treats, right on the slopes. At the conclusion of the day, the designated Cookie Time commenced around 3 p.m., when chefs handed out hot, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies at the base of Centennial Express as well as Beaver Creek Village. New for the 2026 season is a complete Cookie Cabin featuring a walk-up window where you can recharge with cookies and hot cocoa all day long.

There’s no discussion of skiing without mentioning après-ski; The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch delivers, with DJ performances and live entertainment. One lively late afternoon genuinely made me feel like I was experiencing an Alpine après-ski, with Aperol spritzes flowing abundantly and Euro house music echoing at the mountain’s base. If a more relaxed atmosphere suits you better, you won’t find a cozier après experience than in The Great Room, a lavish mountain lodge with a constantly crackling fire and live musicians performing late into the evening.
