A shocking God of War prequel has been released on the PS5 at this moment.

As the February 2026 State of Play presentation concluded, Sony announced God of War Sons of Sparta, a new 2D side scroller prequel in the God of War series, revealing that it’s currently available on PlayStation 5.

”God of War Sons of Sparta is a 2D action platformer featuring a canonical story that follows Kratos in his youth during his rigorous training at the Agoge alongside his brother Deimos,” Sony states. Throughout the game, Kratos will “acquire lethal skills with his spear and shield, as well as wield powerful divine items known as the Gifts of Olympus to confront various enemies.”

Sony’s Santa Monica Studio collaborated with Mega Cat Studios for this game. It is priced at $29.99, with a Digital Deluxe edition offered for $39.99.

Sony also disclosed that it is developing a remake of the original God of War trilogy, with TC Carson poised to reprise his role as the voice of Kratos. Nonetheless, the project is “still in very early stages, and we request your patience as it will take some time before we can provide further updates,” as noted by Sony. “When we are ready to share news, we plan to make it significant!”
