Would it shock you to find out that Microsoft expelled Jeffrey Epstein from its online gaming service? As highlighted by XboxEra, the most recent release of Epstein’s emails reveals that in December 2013, he faced “permanent suspension for harassment, threats, and/or mistreatment of fellow players.”
However, the actual reason may be more straightforward: A secondary email from Microsoft to Epstein on the same date clarifies that his ban stemmed from his status as a registered sex offender, and because Microsoft was among the firms committed to removing registered sex offenders from their platforms.
Although Epstein had been a registered sex offender for several years, another email indicates he may not have begun using Xbox Live until October 2012. Microsoft participated in New York state’s effort to remove sex offenders from online services where they could interact with minors back in April 2012, hence it seems his account wasn’t banned until more than a year later.
It’s uncertain if Epstein himself engaged with Xbox. In July 2014, he inquired of his executive assistant “do we possess an xbox 360 kinect?” and in 2016 this email seems to discuss the purchase of an Xbox as a surprise gift for a young boy. In 2019, one message states, “What is this $25.24 charge on Xbox?”
