Loona DeskMate can rotate and tilt to ensure your iPhone camera stays focused on you.

This year, CES highlights numerous AI companions and assistant robots, but Loona’s DeskMate offers a unique spin on the concept: it’s a charging hub for desks equipped with three USB-C ports, one USB-A, and a MagSafe pad that activates an AI companion app automatically upon connecting your iPhone to the wireless charger.
The standout feature of DeskMate is its utilization of existing technology via your phone. It doesn’t require its own display, camera, or microphone, since the iPhone supplies those (and for now, it’s an iPhone-only device). Offering charging as well, it has the potential to replace an existing charger on your desk, thus reducing clutter.
The stand pivots and tilts, allowing the DeskMate to maintain eye contact as you converse with it. It sports charming, Pixar-like eyes along with practical functionalities such as Slack integration and meeting support.
DeskMate is projected to launch through a crowdfunding initiative in March, though my significant concern is the cost. While a precise amount remains undisclosed, the company indicated it will be “under $300,” which may be on the higher end for a device that relies on your phone.
