Tomb Raider reveals two upcoming games

is a journalist who highlights the business, culture, and communities surrounding video games, particularly focusing on underrepresented gamers and the eccentric, passionate culture of video game communities.

Although Geoff Keighley had previously disclosed that Tomb Raider would be featured at the Game Awards, the unexpected aspect was that instead of just one game reveal, there are two. Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios are releasing a pair of Tomb Raider games consecutively in 2026 and 2027. The first one, launching in 2026, is Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Don’t be deceived by the grand title; Legacy of Atlantis is essentially the Unreal Engine 5 iteration of the original Tomb Raider game, a remake akin to Tomb Raider Anniversary which refreshed the 1997 classic for the PS2.

But there’s more to it. In 2027, the Tomb Raider development team will unveil another title, Tomb Raider Catalyst which is a fresh adventure that seems to showcase a completely new Lara. True Tomb Raider fans are aware that Lara Croft was first conceptualized as Laura Cruz, a woman of South American descent, before being transformed into the British character we recognize today. The protagonist in Catalyst appears to be a Lara that honors her roots as a woman of color. While we lack extensive details about both games, I’m certainly not complaining about receiving two brand new Tomb Raiders to enjoy.
