Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Johny Srouji, the senior vice president of hardware technologies, informed Tim Cook that he is “actively contemplating” departing Apple for another company soon. Earlier reports in October indicated that Srouji was “assessing his future at the tech giant.” Although nothing has been confirmed, it appears the executive is leaning towards not remaining in Cupertino.

Should Srouji exit, he would add to a series of notable shifts in the company’s executive team. COO Jeff Williams declared his retirement in July, resulting in various role changes. However, the pace of changes has intensified in December, with AI chief John Giannandrea stepping down, policy lead Lisa Jackson and general counsel Kate Adams announcing plans to retire, and UI design lead Alan Dye leaving for Meta, all within the past few days.

Apple has faced some challenges in establishing its position as the industry increasingly embraces AI. Now Tim Cook has the responsibility of attempting to halt the downturn while also facing speculation about his potential departure. Gurman, who is known for his accuracy, noted that those rumors are premature, yet it still contributes to the ambiguity surrounding what is generally regarded as one of the more stable companies in Silicon Valley.
