Disney is re-releasing a “recently restored version” of the original 1977 theatrical cut of Star Wars on February 19th, 2027. The film will be shown in cinemas for “a limited duration,” says Disney, as part of “Lucasfilm’s yearlong 50th anniversary celebration” of the franchise. While tickets aren’t available yet, Disney will announce details on the timing and locations for purchasing tickets on StarWars.com.

Earlier this year, Disney disclosed plans to bring Star Wars back to cinemas. Star Wars creator George Lucas has been known to make modifications to what is now referred to as A New Hope, but a select group of fans have recently viewed the initial theatrical cut; The British Film Institute screened an original 35mm print of the film in June at an event featuring an introduction by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who confirmed it was “the first print.”

Prior to the re-release of the first Star Wars, Disney will showcase The Mandalorian and Grogu in theaters on May 22nd, 2026. Additionally, another movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling, is set to hit theaters on May 28th, 2027.
