Tech behemoths invest billions in Anthropic as cyclical AI funding continues

On Tuesday, Microsoft and Nvidia revealed intentions to invest in Anthropic through a new collaboration that includes a $30 billion commitment from the creator of Claude to utilize Microsoft’s cloud services. Nvidia will allocate up to $10 billion to Anthropic, while Microsoft will provide up to $5 billion, with both firms participating in Anthropic’s upcoming funding round.

This agreement unites two firms that have supported OpenAI and ties them more closely to one of ChatGPT’s primary rivals. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated in a video that OpenAI “remains a vital partner,” while noting that the companies will increasingly serve as customers to one another.

“We will utilize Anthropic models, they will utilize our infrastructure, and we’ll collaborate in the marketplace,” Nadella mentioned.

Anthropic, Microsoft, and NVIDIA declare partnerships.

This initiative follows OpenAI’s recent reorganization that provided the firm with more distance from its non-profit beginnings. OpenAI has recently declared a $38 billion arrangement to purchase cloud services from Amazon.com as the firm reduces its reliance on Microsoft. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has stated the company intends to invest $1.4 trillion to create 30 gigawatts of computing capabilities.
