Blind date: ‘It was difficult to determine how to respond to his excitement about a Vegas wedding’

Emma on Julien

What were your expectations?
Grand romance … however, I was content with just an evening filled with thought exchanges and discovering what drives someone.

Initial thoughts?
On time and a bit anxious, or maybe reserved.

What subjects came up in conversation?
His lessons on handstands. Difficult bosses. My fantastic new book. His fitness community. Overload from cultural events in London. His book. The feeling of a coming change in the global landscape. Marriages.

Most uncomfortable moment?
I wouldn’t categorize it as awkward, but I found it challenging to respond to Julien’s excitement about a wedding in Vegas.

How were his table manners?
Eating tagliatelle without making noise is tough; I probably didn’t succeed, but Julien certainly did.

What’s the best aspect of Julien?
His diverse interests.

Would you introduce Julien to your friends?
Sadly, no.

Summarize Julien in three adjectives
Ethical, focused, sincere.

What impression do you think Julien has of you?
Hard to determine, but he didn’t seem eager to find out more.

Did you go somewhere afterwards?
No.

And … was there a kiss?
No.

If you could alter one aspect of the evening, what would it be?
More light-heartedness and a stronger atmosphere of fun and curiosity.

Rate it out of 10?
Rating individuals isn’t my thing.

Would you consider a second meeting?
Our stars do not align.

Julien on Emma

What were your expectations?
An entertaining night with someone new and a unique dating experience.

Initial thoughts?
I sensed a doctor/lawyer vibe upon arrival … and it revealed she works in the medical field!

What topics came up during the chat?
Life in Ireland. Radiography. Literature. Trumpism. Las Vegas weddings. The real story behind Paul Mescal’s revealing shorts.

Most uncomfortable moment?
Hmm … perhaps the beginning? We both seemed a bit out of our depth with the concept of blind dates and needed a moment to ease into it.

How were her table manners?
Very good.

What’s the best aspect of Emma?
Emma has some delightful stories and is knowledgeable about many subjects, which kept the conversation engaging and dynamic.

Would you introduce Emma to your friends?
I don’t see any reason not to.

Summarize Emma in three adjectives
Daring, kind, storyteller.

What do you believe Emma thinks of you?
Absolutely no idea.

Did you go anywhere afterwards?
Just a brief stroll to the Tube together.

And … was there a kiss?
No. We exchanged a friendly hug though.

If you could change one thing about the evening, what would it be?
I wouldn’t change a thing.

Rate it out of 10?
There’s something about rating out of 10 that feels off to me.

Would you meet again?
We didn’t exchange numbers, so it seems unlikely. However, I’d be more than happy to be friendly and chat if we crossed paths again.
