The sequel to the Minecraft movie is on its way.

A Minecraft Movie is set to receive a sequel, and as indicated by a post on X, the new installment will release in theaters on July 23rd, 2027. Jared Hess, who was at the helm of the original film, is back for the second, Deadline reports, though Warner Bros. Discovery has yet to disclose any returning cast members from the first movie.

The initial film was immensely successful, achieving the highest box office opening weekend ever for a video game film in the US. It is also the second highest grossing movie of the year, grossing nearly $1 billion, according to Deadline. Thus, it’s not too surprising that Warner Bros. Discovery has begun working on a sequel, although one wonders if it will feature another viral Chicken Jockey moment?

Nintendo is also preparing to launch a sequel to its massive video game box office success: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be in theaters on April 3rd, 2026.
