The sequel to the Minecraft movie is in the works.

A Minecraft Movie is receiving a sequel, and as stated in a post on X, the upcoming film will be released in theaters on July 23rd, 2027. Jared Hess, who directed the original film, is returning for the sequel, Deadline indicates, though Warner Bros. Discovery has not yet revealed which cast members from the first film might reprise their roles.

The initial film was an enormous success, having achieved the largest box office opening weekend ever for a video game movie in the United States. It also stands as the second highest-grossing film of the year, nearly reaching $1 billion, Deadline reports. Thus, it’s not particularly surprising that Warner Bros. Discovery has already commenced work on a sequel, but will it include another viral Chicken Jockey scene?

Nintendo is also preparing to unveil a sequel to its blockbuster video game film: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be coming to theaters on April 3rd, 2026.
