As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is evaluating Siri’s forthcoming upgrade using an internal chatbot named Veritas. The company’s challenges in keeping up with the AI competition are well-known. The next-generation Siri has experienced numerous delays and the launch of Apple Intelligence received a lukewarm reception. Veritas allows Apple to rapidly create, test, and gather feedback on new Siri functionalities such as “search[ing] through personal data… and perform[ing] in-app actions like editing photos.“

Gurman states that Veritas is similar to other chatbot platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini. Employees submit requests, engage in dialogues, and can even refer back to past conversations to explore a specific subject. However, so far, there doesn’t seem to be any intention to launch it for public use. (Which Gurman considers a misstep.) Instead, Apple plans to keep its internal chatbot solely for internal use. It appears increasingly probable that Apple will depend on Google’s Gemini for its AI-driven search.
